Anyway, Mountain Gorillas’ main diet consist of leaves, classifying them as folivores. Fun fact that’ll make your Snapple taste weird: in the winter, to have a warm meal, Mountain Gorillas will eat their fresh feces. This behavior is known as caecotrophy, a form of copraphagy intended for nutritional purposes. Because leaves digest very slowly, with the aid of symbionts, the second pass helps the Gorillas. I mean they probably enjoy it or thought it was weird at first. I don’t know. Ask Jane Goodall. Besides Gorillas, rabbits and sportive lemurs are other species that practice eating their own poop.
